In continuation of the Biometric Verification of Police Pensioners which was done in the Northern part of the Country in December 2014, Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has commenced the verification of Police pensioners in the South West starting from Monday, January 26 to Thursday February 5, 2015.

PTAD is an agency created by the Federal Government of Nigeria under the Pension Reform Act 2004 and the New PRA 2014, to manage and administer pensions under the Defined Benefits Scheme (DBS).

PTAD’s Verification of pensioners under the defined benefit scheme is being done in phases starting with the police pensioners. The biometric verification exercise will enable PTAD amongst others to; establish a reliable Pensioners data base, capture all eligible Pensioners and their next of kin who have not been pay-rolled. The verification will ease the anxiety of Pensioners who have not been paid for a very long time. It is also hoped to reduce the backlog and myriads of complaints and conduct a once-and-for-all exercise to reduce the sufferings of multiple verifications.

All police pensioners who retired on or before the 30th of June 2007 as well as the Next of Kin (NoK) of deceased police pensioners are advised to report for verification at the five zones of Police formations. These are Zone 2, Zone 8a, Zone 8b, Zone 11a and Zone 11b.

Pensioners from Zone 2 of Police formation which consists of Lagos and Ogun States are having their verification in Lagos while Zone 8 and Zone 11 were divided into two (a & b) for convenience of the pensioners. The Zone 8a which consists of pensioners from Kwara and Ekiti States are being verified in Ilorin while Kogi State is referred to as Zone 8b and pensioners’ verification is taking place in Lokoja.

Osun and Ondo States are in Zone 11a and the pensioners in these two States have their verification centre in Oshogbo while Oyo State police pensioners which is Zone 11b are being verified in Ibadan.

The verification of Pensioners in other zones of the Nigeria Police Command, and other categories of Pensioners including Civil Service pensioners, Custom Immigration and Prisons pensioners as well as pensioners from treasury funded parastatals will be conducted at a later date.

It is pertinent to note that PTAD has commenced nationwide biometric verification exercise of pensioners under the DBS otherwise known as ‘pay as you go’ and will not stop until every category of pensioner is captured.

All Police pensioners in the Zones mentioned above are expected to attend the exercise with all necessary documents including the original and photocopies of Letter/Gazette of First Appointment, Letter of Last Promotion, Letter of Retirement, Duly signed NUBAN Bank Statements with bank logo and Letter of introduction from last command of service.

The Next of Kin of Deceased Police Pensioners on the other hand are expected to attend with the original and photocopies of the Death Certificate, Letter of Administration, Letter of Introduction or Identification from the Command where the deceased last served and Affidavit of Next of Kin.

The verification exercise which is holding at the Police Officers’ Mess of each Centre is running simultaneously from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm daily. It is important to note that all logistic arrangements to ensure the adequate comfort of Pensioners during the exercise have been put in place.

All stakeholders in the public pensions sub-sector especially the Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria (ARPON) are implored to rally together all their affected members and ensure their participation in the exercise.
