The Minister/ Deputy Chairman, National Planning Commission, Dr. Abubakar Olarenwaju Sulaiman has reiterated government’s commitment to revamp the power sector, insisting that the idea of privatizing the sector is in the best interest of Nigerians.

The minister made the call, Tuesday in Kaduna during an inspection tour of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company in continuation of his monitoring tour of privatized companies under the Bureau of Privatized Enterprises (BPE)

‘’ The Federal government is very committed to revamping the power sector. Government is doing everything right to make sure that the power sector works better and more efficiently for Nigerians to enjoy. The idea of privatization is in the best interest of Nigerians’’ He added.

Dr Sulaiman stated that the essence of the tour is to acquaint himself with developments involving the Distribution companies (DISCOS) especially those that are very strategic to national development like the Ikeja and Kaduna Discos, and also to ensure that they deliver on their mandates to Nigerians.

The visit according to him, was also to assess their challenges if any, as well as to see the improvement in their work to justify the essence of privatizing those companies in the first place.

The minister therefore, tasked the management of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company to come up with a presentation in four weeks detailing the state of the company when it was handed over to them and what it looks like now, pointing out that it will guide them in properly advising the government on levels of compliment on various agreements reached between the government and the companies and also to take note of the progress made so far.

While at the Kawo injection sub- station of Mando district, the minister urged the station manager, Engineer Murktar Abdul who had earlier lamented of huge debt being owned the company by their clients, to device a new and workable means of collecting their debts, pledging also to assist the company in recovering the debt.

He also urged them to ensure adequate power supply to the people reminding them that the idea of privatising the companies is to achieve efficiency and to make profit.
