In order to realize the change desire of the present administration, the Federal Government said that concerted efforts are on to reposition the Federal Civil Service for effective service delivery to Nigerians.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita disclosed this today in her office in Abuja when she received members of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) led by its President and Chairman Mr. Anthony Chukwuemeka Nzom.
She said that as a machinery for the delivery of good governance, the civil service deserves the greatest attention and that is why concerted efforts is being made by government to identify areas of weakness of the service, and also streamline past efforts made towards repositioning the service for effective and efficient service delivery to the citizens of Nigeria.
Mrs. Oyo –Ita said further that her office having identified the need to build the capacity of the civil service across board is developing a Structured Assessment –Based Training Programme to equip civil servants with basic skills and knowledge required to discharge their duties in a more professional, knowledgeable, competent and effective manner and that her office was ready to extend such trainings to members of ANAN so as to enhance service delivery.
The Head of Service said that given the dwindling economic resources in the country, there is the need for the service to move from a cost centre to a revenue generating organ where the potentials of all revenue outfits in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are fully utilized. And that the report of the 8-man Technical Committee on enterprise and commercial orientation of the Federal Civil Service was just been submitted to her office.
Speaking earlier, the President and Chairman of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Mr. Anthony Chukwuemeka Nzom said that they were at the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to congratulate her on her recent appointment and to appeal to her to use her wealth of experience to develop policies and programmes that will transform the Federal Public Service so as to help in the realization of the change agenda of the present administration.
He expressed optimism that Federal Civil Servants can effectively perform better than their counterparts in the Private Sector if given adequate training and capacity development to enhance their skills.
