The Senate today at plenary Honours Deaconess Mojisola Eunice Olawale who was recently brutally murdered in Kubwa, a Satelite of the Federal Capital Territory with a one minute silence.
In a motion by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the Senate was saddened by the death of the lady Preacher who was killed during the course of her preaching activity. The Senate also noted the unwarranted killing of innocent citizens and urged the security agencies at all levels to provide adequate protection for the citizenry.
Also today at plenary the Senate Honours two elder statesmen who passed away recently. They are Chief Ojo Madueke and Shetima Ali Monguno. The Senators observed one minute silence in honour of the elder statesmen and resolved to send a delegation to commiserate with the family of the deceased and the government of their respective states.
The Senate today considered and passed the reports of the Committee on Sports and Youth Development and Poverty Alleviation and Social Welfare on Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities bill and report of the Committee on Environment on the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria bill.
The Senate in another motion notes the recent decision of the Global Fund to suspend its financial support to Nigeria citing lack of. Transparency in the disbursement of such fund by Nigerians and mandates its Committee on Health to carry out a holistic investigation on these weighty allegations to ensure that those who are bringing the name of the country into disrepute and hampering progress in the health sector do not get away with their crime.
