The Federal government has said that it will continue with its Social intervention Programmes in the 2017 fiscal year in order to sustain and achieve the aim of its Social inclusion drive which was rightly captured in the Nigeria Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (NERGP)
Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma disclosed this during the Public presentation of the 2017 budget proposals breakdown at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja
Its is to this end, the Minister explained that N500 billion has been allocated for the Special Intervention Programme in the 2017 budget including; Home Ground School Feeding Programme, Government Economic Empowerment Programme, N-Power Job Creation Programme, Conditional Cash Transfers and Social Housing Fund.
Udoma also pointed out that, Social Inclusion is among the five (5) broad areas of focus in the NERGP 2017- 2020, which was developed to address the current challenges and to restore growth
Accordingly, the Minister listed the strategic objectives of the NERGP to include; pulling the economy out of recession, investing in our people, laying the foundation of diversified, inclusive and sustainable growth.
“ As a Government, we are determined to bring succor to our people. The only way we can do this is by taking strong action to change, in a fundamental way, the current trajectory of the Nigerian economy” He concluded.
