Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano has ordered the release 500 prison inmates in the state in commemoration Eid-Kabir Sallah Celebration.
The Governor who visited Kano Central Prison said the pardoned prisons
The pardoned inmates were selected from the Kano Central Prison, Goron Dutse Prisin and seven other satellite prisons in kano formation.
Governor Ganduje said: “this pardon granted as part of 2017 Eid-el-Kabir celebration is to enable all the released inmates to start a new life.
“I also hope that they will be law abiding and engage themselves in conducts that will be productive to them and their families.”
Governor Ganduje also pledged to settle the financial obligation of the freed prisoners.
A statement from the Spokesperson of Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS), Kano Command, ASP Musbahu Nassarawa further disclosed that seven other prisoners had their death sentence commutted to life imprisonment. Another was discharged from life improsonment.
Responding to the gesture, the controller of Kano command of NPS, commended the governor for the gesture and other supports he provided for prisons in the state.
The Controller urged the freed inmates to start a new life and be of good behaviour.
