Health Minister Tasks MDCAN Consultants to offer right training

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole has urged Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) to offer the right training and good leadership to the young medical professionals in their various fields.

The Minister made this call while meeting with the National Executive Committee of the Association led by its President, Prof Ngim E. Ngim on Tuesday in Abuja.

Prof. Adewole also called on the consultants to practice what they teach the younger ones. He also advised the consultant surgeons to be going to the hospitals to perform surgery in their specialties to enable them remain on track while teaching and mentoring the younger ones.

He said: “I have said it severally that trainers/ consultants have great role to play in affairs of training younger doctors.”

He urged the President of the MDCAN to come up with an idea that would bring all the consultants together to discuss the way forward on training of young doctors.

The Minister reaffirmed his commitment to the health profession, he said“I pledge that I will work with you, we are quite conscious of our responsibilities, we are all for this profession, I can assure you that I will support you.” He said.

 Earlier in his remark, the President of the MDCAN, Prof. Ngim E. Ngim said that the purpose of their visit to the Ministry was to intimate the Hon. Minister with the activities of Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria.

Prof. Ngim commended the Hon. Minister for his prompt response in curtailing epidemics in the country. He also appreciated the Minister’s effort in bringing healthcare services to the grass root through the revitalization of  Primary Healthcare Centres in the country.

However, Prof. Ngim appealed to the federal government to expand the scope of the National Health Insurance Scheme(NHIS) coverage to include non-formal sector.
