Interpol Visits EFCC on Anti-Graft Efforts
The Secretary General of Interpol, Jurgen Stock, has commended the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for its efforts in fighting corruption in Nigeria and also assured the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, of support at the international level.

Stock, who led a delegation of the Interpol to the EFCC Headquarters, on February 9, expressed satisfaction at the efforts of the anti-graft agency under the leadership of Ibrahim Magu, the acting EFCC Chairman.

“I am delighted to be here and it’s mainly an opportunity to thank the Government and the EFCC for its cooperation,” he said.

While emphasizing the need to understand the global directions of organized crimes, Stock stated that “the world is taking advantage of globalization to commit crime and it’s a threat to all Nations”.

“Interpol is committed to supporting the EFCC, and indeed, other agencies to build global security architecture and ensure that adequate information is made available amongst other infrastructure to support the Commission,” he said.

Stock also commended the work of the Commission and recommended it as model for the African continent.

He added that: “We understand your needs and we will see where we can come in and unite forces to fight against the Global phenomenon of crime”.

On his part, Magu, who expressed great delight at the visit, commended Stock for finding time out of his busy schedule as the Secretary General of Interpol.

“The EFCC has always had a good rapport with the Interpol and have always enjoyed collaboration with the organization especially in the area of information sharing,” he said.

While advocating for a borderless platform to further support efficiency in information sharing culture, Magu called for more collaboration with the Interpol, which has 192 member states as it was essential for the effective operation of the EFCC.

Other members on the Interpol entourage are Olusola K. Subair, Head of Interpol Nigeria; Kedji Marallin Abbe, Head, Interpol, Regional Bureau for West Africa; Bankola Lanre, Deputy Head, Interpol Nigeria; Ahmed Kontogora, Regional Bureau of Interpol, West Africa and Ifeanyi Henry, Interpol Nigeria.
