General Danjuma assures Dapchi parents on the safe return of GGSTC students

The Presidential Committee on the North East Initiative (PCNI) led by Lt. General TY Danjuma GCON (rtd) has commiserated with the Governor of Yobe State, Dr. Ibrahim Geidam and the District Head of Dapchi Alhaji Kachalla Yuroma.

General Danjuma was represented on the visit by the Vice Chairman of PCNI, Tijjani M. Tumsah. While in Dapchi he relayed the PCNI Chairman’s remarks that “the regrettable attacks came when Operation Lafiya Dole was reversing the tide of violent insurgent attacks in the North East and early recovery was beginning to take off in most communities of the region”He assured the District head and the representative of the parents that the PCNI will work closely with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the safe return of the girls.

Tumsah further undertook a tour of the Government Girls Science and technical College, Dapchi for a firsthand assessment of the security breach. He assured the delegation of the forum of abducted girls that the government will deploy all its military and civil assets to ensure the safe return of the girls. Bashir Manzo, head of the forum, said that the forum will regularly update the PCNI on the number of students still unaccounted for as parents are still coming from the hinterland.Tumsah also highlighted that the Safe Schools initiative, SSI,which currently has 2000 students attending 43 schools across the country will be expanded to cater to more vulnerable students from the North East. The SSI will also undergo a review by the relevant stakeholders to formulate strategies on how to prevent such attacks and ensure that the education of students continues under adequate protection in line with safety protocols of international standard.
