PROWA Empowers 41 Widows of Prison Officers

The Prisons Officers’ wives Association (PROWA) has empowered forty-one (41) widows of Prisons officers who died because of the Boko Haram insurgency, in North East Nigeria.

Speaking at the occasion, the President PROWA Hajiya Gwamma Ja’afaru said “we have decided to use the occasion to empower 41 widows of officers who died in active service to the Nation because of the Boko Haram insurgency. This empowerment exercise is to enable them start up small scale business in various areas of their skills to support their families”.

According to her, efforts of this nature is one of the numerous avenues PROWA continues to reinforce her motto “we care too”

She further stressed that “other programmes already implemented include: the deworming/hygiene campaign, supported by Neimeth Pharmaceutical, Cervical Cancer Awareness, Visit to Prisons yards to admonish and donate essential supplies to inmates, reactivation and expansion of PROWA car wash, and PROWA decongestion programme through paying of fines for 50 well behaved inmates with option of fines.”

As part of the programme, there was the commissioning of the third face of the PROWA school project. The third face is a story building comprising classrooms, Library, administrative office, mini conference hall amongst others, adding that the project is meant to complement the existing structures.

According to her “our goal is to produce future leaders not only of great learning but also of sound character” she then call on well spirited individuals and Corporate Organizations to support PROWA in the discharge of their Corporate Social Responsibilities as such gestures will sure get to the very less privileged of the society.

Goodwill messages were sent in by the National Presidents of DEPOWA, NAFOWA, POWA, IMOWA, FOWA, wives of Minister of Interior, Minister of Justice, Director SSS, federal Road Safety Commission and some past presidents of PROWA.

In his remarks the Controller General of Prisons Ja’afaru Ahmed applauded the efforts of the Women and enjoined them to put more efforts as they would always have the support of the Service. Earlier the Special Guest of Honour Prince (Engr) Arthur Eze (OFR) gave a scholarship of seven years to all the pupil of the School as well as undisclosed amount of cash donation.
