Fashola Challenges Ministry’s Management on Teamwork Delivery
Hon. Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola has tasked management staff and heads of the ministry’s parastatals and agencies to rededicate themselves to hardwork as well as serve as ambassadors of the ministry.
He stated this at the just concluded 2 – day Top Management Retreat held in Kano over the weekend. The Minister said that the retreat was to enable participants brainstorm and review the progress made on the implementation of the projects, programmes and policies of the ministry through teamwork approach. He reminded them that they were occupying their current positions to solve problems, “we are here to solve problems, the end goal is how we improve the lives of our citizens”.
Fashola noted that the ministry, in pursuant, of its mandate of road construction and maintenance, provision of uninterrupted power supply and the provision of houses nationwide has created employment opportunities to millions of Nigerians which invariably has impacted positively on the nation’s economy as attested by the recent statistics on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the 4th quarter of 2017, which indicated growth in the three sectors of the Ministry.

The Minister also emphasized the importance of owning the public space by improving attitude and work ethics that will enable participants deliver expected services to Nigerians. He admonished participants to make deliberate effort to take care of themselves and their immediate environments, acquire additional knowledge and increase passion for their work.
In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Works and Housing sector of the Ministry, Mohammed Bukar recalled that the retreat centered on the importance of building a team that delivers on its target as a major factor in the delivery of the Ministry’s mandate. He said the choice of the theme of the retreat was informed by the need to put in place, “ appropriate plans and strategies for the implementation of the programmes of the Ministry”.
Topics discussed during the retreat included: The Power of Communication; Ensuring Speedy Closure of the Metering Gap Through The Meter Asset Provider(MAP) Regulation, Health talks and presentation/demonstration on the Use of Fire Extinguishers.
In attendance at the retreat also was the Permanent Secretary in the Power sector of the ministry, Engr Louis Edozien, Directors, Heads of units, Managing Directors of the Ministry’s parastatals and agencies.
The Minister on his way to the retreat had inspected some road projects and bridges, the National Housing sites in Kaduna and later that of Kano.. He also commissioned the solar hybrid system at the Rumbu Sack/Mats Industry and the Solar plant at the Sabon Gari Market in Kano and will continue the inspection tour of other facilities in North West Zone today, 11th March, 2018.
