The Maiduguri Federal High Court on Friday 20th July 2018 issued a “Notice of consequence of disobedience to order of court” also known as form 48 against the Commissioner of Police and the O/C Special Anti Robbery Squad Borno State. The notice reads; “that unless you obey the direction contained in this order, you will be guilty of contempt of Court and will be liable to be committed to prison
Recall that the Police in the state have last week Tuesday arrested a chieftain of the PDP, Alhaji Grema Terab despite a court order restraining the Police from doing so. Mr Terab who has been in logger heads with Governor Shettima had declared his interest to contest in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state. An incident occurred during the declaration where a person lost his life at the venue after the declaration.
While Mr Terab claimed to had been attacked by political thugs, the Police in the state declared him wanted, hence he approached the Federal High Court in the state fearing victimization from the Police. The High Court Judge issued an order that status quo be maintained pending the determination of the matter. But despite the order, while at a gathering of the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the Police went ahead and arrested him.
Court documents have been served to the Commissioner of Police and the O/C SARS to comply with the order.
