Nigerian Army University Introduces WAZOBIA Degree Programmes

The Nigeria’s three major languages, Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo, are among the 38 pioneer degree programmes to be offered at the Nigeria Army University (NAU), Biu, Borno State.

The three language popularly tagged WAZOBIA, which is a combination of WA in Yoruba, ZO in Hausa and BIA for Igbo to mean ‘Come’ in English.

This was disclosed by the pioneer Registrar of specialized-institution, Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim in a chat with PRNigeria.

He said the essence of introducing the three languages as degree courses to be offered at NAU, is aimed at giving a sense of belonging to the multi-ethnic and pluralistic Nigerian society, adding that, ‘’it is one fundamental way of promoting, sustaining and preserving our mother-tongues, which are already endangered species, from going into extinction.’’

The Brigadier-General also added that the Army University will attach significant premium to merit, applicants’ moral character and federal character principle, while not compromising best academic standards.
