Trust, Governance to Dominate Discussions at NIPR 2018 Abuja Conference

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) FCT Chapter is set to organize her 2018 annual conference and AGM in Abuja with the theme, “Bridging the Trust Gap in Governance: Implications for Emerging Democracies”.

According to the Chairman of the AGM/Conference Planning Committee, “we consider this year’s theme very germane to the growth and sustainability of our nascent democracy and governance imperatives. A recent survey by Edelman Trust Barometer shows that more than half of the global population expressed distrust in government institutions.

In Nigeria, the last two decades has witnessed abuse of power and the plunder of our national resources, which has plunged the country into the political and economic mess that it is today. The apparent disconnect between the government and Nigerian citizens arises from the lack of trust and faith in the political and governance systems. In a nutshell, trust in governance in Nigeria is at an all-time low and portends grave danger for our democratic society ahead of the 2019 general elections”.

In recent years, the annual conference of the Chapter have become reputed for attracting cerebral and celebrated national leaders of diverse backgrounds to as special keynote speakers. This year’s conference, which will be held at Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja will feature two highly respected and cerebral first class traditional rulers as headline speakers, while the panelists are distinguished professionals who also operate on the global stage.
