Olutope Bags 24 years Jail Term over N10mn Fraud

Justice M. L. Owolabi of the State High Court, Ibadan, Oyo State November 26, 2018 convicted and sentenced one Oladipo Olutope to twenty four years imprisonment and to restitute N10, 450, 000 (Ten Million, Four Hundred And Fifty Thousand Naira) only to the victim. The sentences are to run concurrently.

The convict, who bagged six years jail term on each count was arraigned on the 22nd January, 2018 by the Ibadan office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a 4-count charge bordering on stealing by conversion. He was found guilty on all four – count amended by the court and convicted in accordance with the relevant law.

One of the amended charge that earn the convict the jail term reads “that you, Oladipo Festus Olutope between 26th January and 19th Dec. 2016 at Ibadan within the Ibadan Judicial Division of this honourable court, did commit an illegal act, to wit, Stealing of ₦7, 015, 600 (Seven Million Fifteen Thousand Six Hundred Naira) property of One Yusuf Gbejami Lawal given to you to invest on his behalf and which you converted to your own personal use”.

Another Man, Mufutau Bags Three Months Imprisonment For Fraud

Justice M. L. Owolabi of the State High Court, Oyo State on November 26, 2018 convicted and sentenced one Mufutau Ladoja to three months imprisonment for obtaining money under false pretence contrary to Section 419 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 38, Laws of the Oyo State.

Mufutau who was arraigned the same day (November 26, 2018) by the Ibadan office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on a one count amended charge bordering on obtaining under false pretence entered into a plea bargain and was found guilty and convicted accordingly.

He also refunded the total sum of N800, 000 (Eight Hundred Thousand Naira) he obtained to the owner.

The amended charge that earned the convict the jail term reads “that you Mufutau Ladoja on or about November, 2017 at Ibadan within the jurisdiction of this honourable court with the intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N800, 000 (Eight Hundred Thousand Naira) from one Oluwatobi Olarejawu Oloyede under the false pretence that the money represented payment for the plot of land at Awotan, Apete, Ibadan, which pretence you knew to be false, thereby committed an offence”.
