Why We Lay Foundation for Police PR School in Ilorin- IGP Idris

It is with a great pleasure that I welcome you all to today’s occasion on the foundation laying ceremony of the Nigeria Police Public Relations School.

The Police Public Relations School was established under my administration for the first time in the history of Nigeria Police Force in August, 2017 as part of my resolve to bequeath to the Force an avenue for the development of Public Relations practice, in response to the daunting challenges of policing Nigeria in the 21st century.

The Nigeria Police Force, being a responsive and responsible organization, has since adopted the principles of community policing, this School was created as a veritable tool to further enhance the Police – Public collaborations, based on mutual respect and understanding.

Public Relations officers, who are saddled with the responsibility of standing in the gap for the Police, must of necessity be equipped with the skills and competences to carry out their assignments. The same goes for all officers and men as their conduct impacts on Police image.

The Force’s activities which are subject on daily basis to public opinion brought to the fore the need to constantly inform the public of the achievements of the Nigeria Police Force on regular basis to improve public perception and confidence in the ability of the Force to protect lives and properties of all Nigerians across the Country, this is the opportunity that the Police Public Relation School is going to provide among other numerous benefits. The foundation laying of the Police Public Relations School today has come at the right time.

I must thank the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, the Emir of Ilorin, His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulugambari, CFR, Chairman, Kwara State Council of Emirs and Obas, the good people of Kwara State, the Ilorin Emirate Descendant Progressive Union (IEDPU) Executives and Members, Senior Retired Police Officers here present and other important personalities invited for their support for this project, and look forward to more areas of collaboration between them and the Nigeria Police Force.

It is my honour to invite our Special Guest of Honour, the Emir of Ilorin, His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulugambari, CFR, Chairman, Kwara State Council of Emirs and Obas to join me in laying the foundation stone for this School in Kulende, Ilorin today the 11th day of January, 2019.
