Navy Offers Medical Services to Hausa Comunity in South-South
The Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital located in Calabar, Cross River State has offered free medical services to residents of Nasarawa Community in Calabar Municipal Council Area. The gesture is part of Nigerian Navy social corporate responsibilities to its host communities and also to sensitize members of the public of the existence of the Hospital.

Speaking during the flag-off of the exercise, the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral David Adeniran noted that the gesture was aimed at tackling health challenges and improve living standard of the people. According to him, “this medical outreach is organized to create awareness of the existence of the Hospital with the view to assisting in treatment of any form of ailments diagnosed” He further revealed that the Hospital which is equipped with state of art medical equipment with trained specialists is not only for military personnel but opened to members of the public in need of medical attention.

The Flag Officer Commanding stated that the outreach will cater for more than four thousand residents of the area and adjoining communities. He however noted that any case beyond the outreach will be referred to the Hospital for further medical attention. Adeniran also mentioned that one of the reasons for the programme is to identify prevailing medical conditions in the area in order to subject it to further analysis with possible collaboration with other medical research institutes in the country for solutions. He therefore admonished residents of the community to avail themselves of the opportunity to benefit from the affordable and quality services rendered by the Hospital.

Similarly, the Acting Commander, Surgeon Commander Uche Okeke who led the other medical specialists for the outreach said members of the Community will benefit from free screening of various illnesses so as to provide appropriate medications to them on conclusion of screening.

One of the beneficiaries and leader of the Community, Alhaji Sani Baba Gombe expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Navy for the kind gesture. Baba noted that the Hausa Community in the area has contributed greatly to the economic development of the Community.

Some of the services rendered by the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital include; Radiology, Surgery, Orthopedics, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Ear Nose and throat, Gynecology, pediatrics, general laboratories and emergency services among others.

It could be recalled that in furtherance to providing quality medical services to military personnel and members of the public, the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital Calabar was commissioned by His Excellency, the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2018.
