2019 Elections: Spokespersons’ Forum Advocates Rancour-Free Exercise
… Preaches Against Misinformation, Hate Speeches

Forum of Spokespersons of Critical Institutions in Niger State (FOSCIN) has advocated for a peaceful and rancour-free 2019 elections in the state.

The forum stated this in Minna, Niger state capital during an advocacy visits to media houses. FOSCIN disclosed that it has so far engaged in management of security information in the state as one of the major objectives for its establishment.

“We embark on advocacy for this election to tell people that Niger State and Nigeria is bigger than the ambition of anybody just as President Muhammadu Buhari has emphasized. Also, Governor Abubakar Sani- Bello catch phrase has been that politics is not war. Wherever he goes for his campaign the message has been the same- peaceful, politics without bitterness. ”

“The forum has been in the forefront of advocating for peaceful and rancour free elections especially in our own instance cautioning people against fake news, hate speeches and comments especially on the social media that will create disaffection in the society and also cautioning individuals in the society on how to manage their own comments on social media so that we can leave in a peaceful society and have a Nigeria of our dream.”

FOSCIN disclosed that Niger State is the only state in Nigeria which has been able to bring all the Public Relations Officers of various security agencies under one umbrella to ensure security information management assuring that it will continue to do its best in ensuring the proper management of security information with the view to managing crisis information and providing accurate details to the public.

The forum also assured that the it would continue to leave up to its responsibility of information management for the benefit of the state as well as the country. Adding that after the 2019 general elections the forum would further work towards capacity building and ensure the revival of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations in the state.

It commended media organizations in the state for their efforts in abiding by professional standards in the practice of journalism and called for the support of the organization in order to allow the forum to carry out its responsibility in the state.

The Forum of Spokespersons of Critical Institutions in Niger state, FOSCIN, was established in December 2017 to unite and create the desired synergy in security information management in Niger state among critical institutions.”

Members of the Forum include Office of the Chief Press Secretary, Ministry of Information, Spokespersons of Nigerian Army,NA, Nigeria AirForce NAF, Nigerian Police, NPF, Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp NSCDC, Nigerian Prison Service, NPS,, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Nigerian Fire Service, NFS and Motor Vehicle Administration/VIO.”
