Civil-Military Relations Enhances Peace, Guarantees Security–Gen. Muhammad

The Chief of Civil-Military Affairs of the Nigerian Army (NA), Major-General Usman Shehu Muhammad, has called for collaboration between the media and the Army in order to enhance peace and guarantee security in the country.

He made this known at a security summit organized by NA in Kano.

At the event tagged, “The Role of Social Media in Civil-Military Relations as a Non-Kinetic Tool for Enhanced Peace and Security in Nigeria”, Maj. Gen. Muhammad, said the Nigerian media should at all times strive to project a positive image for the country.

He appealed to some section of the media, with vested interest, to eschew negative reportage which often dent the reputation of Army, and the nation at large.

The Army Major General, explained that the objective of the summit is to bridge communication gap, by increasing and maintaining good civil military relationship in the fight against insecurity across the country.

“We organized this summit in a bid to create a conducive environment between civilians and military. This will also help to create better understanding between Nigerians and the military.

“Our department is committed to ensuring that civil-military relations is not only understood, but practiced as a line of operation.

“This is because winning the heart and minds of the populace is key to gaining their desired cooperation and necessary support in order to sustain peace and stability, in the country,” he added.

Gen. Muhammad, thereafter urged journalists and social media influencers to shun fake news and hate speech peddled against the Army.

“I am calling on journalist and social media influencers to distinguish themselves from purveyors of fake news, whose sole objective is to smear the image and reputation of the Nigerian Army” he said.
