FG urges Journalists to Re- examine Gatekeeping on Duty
Everyone is a journalist in the society with the advent of the Social Media, but the truth remains that journalism without gate keeping is not journalism. People posting false stories and pictures with phones have destroyed people’s career, but there are consequences.
The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Sunday Dare made this known during a courtesy visit of TVC News team to his office led by the CEO. Mr. Andrew Hanlon.
The Minister said that TVC and its concept in the past 8 to 9 years have continued to increase professionalism on the job of gate keeping and professional content. TVC has made a crop of professionals through its constant training of his team of staff, thereby carving a reputation of a good manager of resources and clear market leader when it comes to one of the networks in the country.
The Minister confirmed that the Ministry has two mandates which are Youth Development and Sports Development, stressing that Television and sports are together, the number of people who watch sports on television is very high. Hon. Dare emphasized that we are about developing sports in Nigeria; in the past years, we have seen sport culture decline but we want to bring it back. We intend to embrace the television in sports development, not just in Nigeria but in the diaspora.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Andrew Hanlon, CEO of TVC News, said that they play the role of entertaining and informing unbiased, adding TVC has up to seven million viewers and listeners everyday connecting to their television and radio, which is a huge responsibility on the network.
Mr. Hanlon reiterated that education and training is key to TVC, hence they invest in their people through constant training for staff, and investment on infrastructure.. “The advertising industry in Nigeria is declining, and the revenue is the life blood of the industry, and it is affecting our business” he added.
To this end, the CEO said the organization has come a long way and wish to partner with government agencies like the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, which has huge audience, so as to help the Ministry disseminate information and campaigns to targeted audience.
It is worthwhile to note that the team from TVC presented a plaque to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Sunday Dare.
