Katsina State Responds Positively to Sanitation –Water Resources Minister

Katsina State Responds Positively to Sanitation –Water Resources Minister

In recognition of the huge benefits that are derivable from investment in the water and sanitation sector, Government of Katsina State has been very responsive to the issues of Sanitation particularly in the release of counterpart funds.

The Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman H. Adamu FNSE FAEng stated this on Wednesday, 9th October, 2019 when he received in his office, the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari who paid him a courtesy visit.

In his speech, the Minister noted that through the activities of Sanitation Marketing in the State, 9986 Units of improved toilets have been constructed through local financing (Adashe) and provision of loans through Microfinance Institutions in the State.

He noted that “Katsina State is one of the States where UNICEF began implementation of Sanitation Hygiene and Water in Nigeria (SHAWN) Programme which was funded by DFID”.“On the Sanitation Marketing (San – Mark) pool fund loan, the State Government committed the sum of two hundred million naira and has already released fifty million naira”.

Engr. Adamu whilst noting the immense experience and dedication to service delivery of the Governor in the Water Sector, further informed him that President Muhammadu Buhari will on 19th November, 2019 carry out the National Launch of the ‘Clean Nigeria, Use the Toilet’ campaign and all State Governors will be invited to participate, after which they are expected to launch similar programmes in their respective States appointing the First Ladies of the various States as ODF champions.

The Minister urged the Governor to give maximum support to the programme and mobilize the good people of Katsina State to embrace the campaign against open defecation.

In his response, the Governor of Katsina State congratulated the Honourable Minister on his well-deserved re – appointment as Honourable Minister of Water Resources and expressed his deep appreciation for the completion of Sabke and Zobe Dams.

He craved for the support of the Ministry towards the completion of the ongoing Water Supply Projects in his state and promised to key into the campaign against open defecation programme with special interest in the construction of additional toilet facilities in public places like markets, parks, schools and religious houses.
