IPCR Organizes Roundtable Discussions on Xenophobic Attacks

IPCR Organizes Roundtable Discussions on Xenophobic Attacks

In response to the recent xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other Nationals in South Africa, the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) organized a roundtable discussions with critical stakeholders in the country.

The Director General of the Institute, Dr. Bakut. T. Bakut while speaking at the occasion tagged “Roundtable on Xenophobic Attack in South Africa and its implication for Nigeria’s Peace and Security,” re-iterated Federal Government’s commitment towards providing lasting solutions to the repeated attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

He added that the roundtable is about discussing pressing issues affecting the nation, with a mindset of coming out with policy document that government will be proud to work with, so that the issue of xenophobia will be totally addressed.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of Human Rights Commission, Barr. Tony Ojukwu, charged stakeholders to join hands in addressing the xenophobic attacks.

He noted that the issue would be resolved amicably as the Nigerian president and that of South Africa are also discussing at the highest levels.

The Acting Head, Directorate of External Conflict Prevention and Resolution, IPCR, Mr. Chukwuemeka Mbah said that the meeting was organized to brainstorm on how to halt further xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

He further explained that the meeting was to engage experts and stakeholders toward assessing and reflecting on the management of the xenophobic attacks by south Africa and Nigeria’s response.
