Defence Minister, Service Chiefs Visit Troops on the Frontline
The Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Major General Bashir Magashi (rtd) has visited the frontlines in the northeast and urged the troops of the Multi-National Joint Taskforce to sustain the military operations against insurgency.
The minister was accompanied on the trip by service chiefs including Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Yusuf Buratai, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall, Sadique Abubakar, Director of Defence training and operations, Maj. Gen. Lucky Irabor and other top brass.
While addressing the troops comprising Nigeria and Chadian contingents, General Magashi said, “The Commander in Chief of Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari asked me to convey his goodwill message to all of you for your doggediness, resilient and hard work you have been putting in the northeast sector of our operations and he wishes you best of luck in your future operations in this sector.

“My purpose of coming here is to see all of you, to discuss with our colleagues from Chad and to see how we can improve our operational efficiency, we have discussed at length with their officers, they have told us their problems and everything is needed for you to improve in the conduct of this operations, so our prayer is that all of you will continue with good works you have been doing,” he said.
While commending the recent achievements of the Sector 3 Operation Lafiya Dole (OPLD) in eliminating dozens of terrorists in the axis, the Minister urged the troops to remain steadfast and sustain the tempo.
In his remarks, the Commander of the Sector 3 Operations Lafiya Dole, Maj Gen. Abdulmalik Bulama Biu thanked the minister and his entourage for visiting the frontlines to boost the morale of the troops.
Biu said the sector had launched “Operation kamadougu link” designed to totally eliminate Boko Haram from their hideout in every part of the Lake Chad.
According to him, the Operations conducted in Northern Borno and Tumbus traversing Niger and through Yobe corridors had yielded successful clearance operations in several Boko Haram hideout.
The Sector Commander said the troops also destroyed notorious terrorists enclaves in Duguri Arge around the Tumbus, Karere, Gashigar, Arege, Metele and Malam fatori, in the fringes of Lake chad, Borno state.
“The successful operations led to the killing of 37 Boko Haram Fighters, recovery of four Guntrucks and dozens of other arms and Ammunition,” he said.
