Grassroots Development: FG begins Talent Hunt, Signs MoU on Schools Competition

The Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has reiterated its dogged and diligent commitment to resuscitate grassroots sports to discover and nurture talents, especially through the National Principals and Headmasters Cup competition. It is pertinent to state that deliberate policy has also been put in place to develop sports facilities and infrastructure to realize our talent hunt programme.

The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, dropped these hints during the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Ministry and HideaPlus Ltd on organizing the National Principals and Headmasters Cup Competition.

Continuing, the Minister emphatically stated that Nigeria relies 99% on foreign football players to come play for the country anytime we have competition but talents can be discovered from the schools across the country.

To this end, Mr Sunday Dare said that we seek partnership with corporate organisations that has the requisite experience and ideas; as exemplified in this instance by HideaPlus ltd..

He urged HIDEAPLUS to look beyond football and ensure that other Sports get prominence, as that is what makes the signing of MOU very significant.

In his remarks, the permanent Secretary Mr. Gabriel Tanimu Aduda stated that the occasion is another huge landmark that will actually defined Sport going forward.Mr. Aduda added that the Ministry is being deliberate in hunting for talents, as it is all about raising generation that will take over from the stars of yesterday.

“The Ministry has already put in place, a committee to work with HIDEAPLUS to achieve success”, the Permanent Secretary stated.

The Director Grassroot Sports Development, Dr. Ademola Are, reiterated that the Ministry has all it takes to re-awaken the Principals Cup Competition and make it successful but the Ministry needs partnership like HIDEAPLUS.

Speaking, the CEO, HIDEAPLUS Mr. Tony Oritse Pemu commended the Minister for his visionary approach to Sports in Nigeria, where Sport has become a tool for National re-engineering and value reorientation.

“We are committed to supporting the hosting of one of the landmark events in history, and collaborating with the Ministry to showcase the talents embedded in our Youth” Mr Pemu reiterated.
