COVID-19: NCoS Suspends Visitation to Prisons

In compliance with the Controller General of Corrections’ directives on emergency response measures to curb the spread of Corona virus disease in Custodial Centres across the country, the Controller of Corrections Bauchi State Command had temporarily suspended all forms of visits to Custodial Centres across Bauchi State.

The Controller of Corrections, Suleiman T. Suleiman disclosed this today while briefing newsmen in his office.

He noted that the measure became imperative in view of the continuous spread of the deadly virus in the country. The Controller maintained that so far, there is no single case of Corona virus recorded in any of the facilities in the state.

He emphasized that Bauchi State Command of the Service has put in place measures aimed at curbing the spread of the disease in all the Custodial Centres, part of which include; temporary suspension of visits to inmates except for lawyers and judicial officers, suspension of any group gathering with inmates by NGOs and religious bodies, maintaining high level of hygiene and avoiding close contact with people, deployment of medical and health officers of the Service to strategic places within the Centres, amongst many other precautionary measures.

Controller Suleiman T. Suleiman however called on the Bauchi State Centre for disease Control to assist the Service with testing kits that can assist it in combating the dreaded scourge.
