NCoS Received Computers for Non Custodial Sentencing in Akwa-Ibom
The Akwa Ibom State Government has provided computers and other electronic gadgets to the Non- Custodial Unit, Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Akwa Ibom State Command. This is part of the State Government support to the Nigerian Correctional Service in respect to non custodial sentencing in the State.
The items donated are; computers, cameras, printers, scanners and other essential work tools that will aid in the profiling of convicts and overall efficiency of the unit.
The Non Custodial Unit is one of the recent reforms introduced by the Controller General of Corrections, Ja’afaru Ahmed. This unit implements all non custodial sentencing in the Country which includes; community services, probation, parole, restorative justice and any other non custodial sentencing as enshrined in the Nigerian Correctional Service Act, 2019.
While presenting the items to the unit in his office today 5th May, 2020, the Controller of Corrections, Akwa Ibom State Command Alex Oditah, said that “this donation is very timely during this pandemic as it will boost the output and morale of Officers in the Unit”. He appreciated His Excellency, Udom Emmanuel the executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State for supporting the unit.
The Officer-in-charge Non-Custodial unit, Imabong Nestor Udoh on reciept of the items, thanked the Controller for his immense support and promised to manage these resources/ items from the State Government judiciously.
In another development, the wife of the Controller of Corrections, Akwa Ibom State Command, Mrs. Ogor Oditah who is also the Chairperson, Nigerian Correctional Officers Wives Association (NICOWA) in the State, has admonished women to be patience and caring to their husbands during this pandemic. Mrs. Oditah said this today, 4th May, 2020 during the distribution of food items to women in the Baracks. The women who are wives of serving Correctional officers, were advised by the wife of the Controller, to be a pillar of support to their husbands and families.

Mrs. Oditah asked them to accept these food palliative as a token from the Association to help NICOWA members in the State cushion the effect of this COVID-19 in their various homes. She also charged them to be prudent in spending by buying essential commodities that will help them manage their homes very well.
Some of the beneficiaries thanked the Controller of Corrections, Alex Oditah and his lovely wife “the Mother Theresa of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Akwa Ibom State Command”, for the palliative. They prayed for the nation, that things will go back to normalcy, the overall growth of Nigerian Correctional Service, officers and men in the Command.

*NICOWA Gets Palliative from Akwa Ibom State Government*
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Women Affairs, Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Glory Edet has given on behalf of the State Government, food palliative to the Nigerian Correctional Officers Wives Association (NICOWA). The food items were presented to the members during their monthly meeting at Uyo Custodial Centre today, 6th May 2020.
Dr. Glory Edet had earlier made a pledge to the women, during the beginning of this COVID-19 pandemic to support the Association.
Mrs. Ogor Oditah who is the Chairperson of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of NICOWA, thanked the Commissioner for Agriculture and Women Affairs for the support to NICOWA during this pandemic. She reiterated her earlier advice to the women on the issue of home management. She also appreciated the wife of the Governor, Her Excellency, Mrs. Martha Udom for her motherly support and care to women and the downtrodden in the State.
Bags of rice and cash were distributed to members. The women were very happy with these palliative from the Honourable Commissioner as they danced and sing with excitement.
The women prayed for the Governor, his wife, the Commissioner for Agriculture & Women Affairs, healing from the deadly coronavirus in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large.
