According to the organizers of the yearly award event, supported by Foreign Press Association (FPA), there were 200 entries from across 55 countries. The shortlisted finalists spoke up for the marginalized, exposed abuse of power among political elite and focused on social injustice, in their reports. Ibrahim Adeyemi, was nominated for his story detailing victims of rape by Boko Haram terrorists–a story of terror and violence inside insurgents’ camps. Mr Adejumo, whose investigation exposes how security agents aided people to flout COVID-19 lockdown travel ban at the Nigerian border of Benin republic, was praised for risking “his own health to expose how the country is at a pivotal point and what the danger of the breach means to the wider community.”

It would be recalled that Kabir emerged as photojournalist of the year in the 2019 edition of CJA, while Adeyemi picked the editor of the year award, at the same event.
