Boko Haram Abducts 35 Along Damaturu-Maiduguri Road

Suspected members of Boko Haram insurgents have abducted not less than 35 travellers along Damaturu-Maiduguri Road.

The attack occured at about 5pm Friday evening at Garin Kuturu in Jakana, on Damaturu-Maiduguri road according to security sources.

The insurgents who appeared in military uniforms were said to have mounted a roadblock on the highway with five Hilux vans before taking away perssengers in nine vehicles.

“The perssengers first sighted a burning fire, but they thought it was bush burning, not knowing that they had already ambushed a Dangote’s truck driver and set it ablazed.

“But while they were approaching the scene, they sighted the insurgents storming towards them on trucks mounted with heavy weapons, Before they could turn their vahicles to run, the insurgents had already caught up with them.

“Many of the perssengers fled to the bush, 35 abducted, two private vehicles and one truck was set ablazed. Nine vehicles of the abducted perssengers were also abandoned in the scene while their properties were looted,”the sources said.

In an amateur video of the aftermath obtained by PRNigeria, not less than five vehicles involving both public and private commuters was sighted scattered along the scene of the incidence.

Police vehicles were also sighted in the video as their siren blared while passengers inside the vehicle of the individual shooting the clip kept repeating, “Innalillahi wa Inna ilaihi raji’un” as they urge their driver to hurry on.

This will be the second in a series of daring kidnapping by criminal gangs in the country within the week.

On December 11th Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari, flew off to take a holiday at his country home in Daura, Katsina State.

That night hundreds of gunmen riding on motorbikes stormed a boarding school in Kankara, also in Katsina state. Some schoolboys jumped over a fence and ran away when they heard gunshots. But more than 300 were rounded up and herded into the surrounding forest

Boko Haram has claimed that the armed group was responsible for the abduction of hundreds of the students from an all-boys school.

The boys were eventually freed after interventions by State and security officials.
