Plateau CJ Releases 16 Inmates and Grants Bail to over 40 others
The Chief Judge of Plateau State Hon. Justice Yakubu Gyang Dakwak was on a tour to all the custodial centres in Plateau state to perform the statutory function of reviewing cases of those awaiting trial for various offences.
During his visit the CJ released 16 inmates and granted bail to over 40 others across the state.
In his statement, the CJ promised to do more and come up with new policies that will help decongest the custodial centres in the state and noted that with the signing of the New Correctional Act 2019 by the President, some minor offences and cases would be settled out of court and handed non-custodial sentences.
Responding, the Controller of Corrections Plateau State Command, Mr. Samuel Babatope Aguda appreciated the CJ for his patience and resilience and assured the CJ of the service’s support and cooperation.
The DCC incharge Jos Custodial centre, Mr. Gabriel Agada, in his remarks appreciated the CJ and his team for coming and wished them journey mercies back to their destinations.
