24 Hours After Security Warning, Boko Haram Terrorists Attack Geidam in Yobe

Barely 24 hours after PRNigeria published an exclusive report on security sources raising ‘serious concern’ over the indiscriminate planting of landmines and activities of Boko Haram informants in some Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the North-East, a terrorist’ attack was on Tuesday launched at Geidam local government in Yobe State.

The town was attacked by some Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, around 5:30pm as they broke into shops to loot food and drugs.

A credible security source told PRNigeria that the insurgents invaded Geidam from their newly established camps around Malari Zango, Abduri, Buhari, Degaltura, Kayidiri, Garin Liman, Gumsari Gagala, and Gorrgo villages, all in Yunusari local government.

“The terrorists who are operating around these areas, have since forced some villagers to move out of their homes and relocate to Geidam town for refuge from their relatives and unknown residents.

“It is from the hideouts in the surrounding villages that the terrorists are launching the attack on Geidam for foodstuffs and drugs.”

PRNigeria in its earlier story, reported, “…that in some communities, the informants not only leak vital information to the terrorists but harbour them in their houses and settlements, while also assisting them (the terrorists) plant landmines against Nigerian troops.”

Security sources had said that the nefarious activities of informants which are rife in at least 13 local governments are sabotaging military operations in some parts of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States.

One of the sources noted that the sabotaging activities of informants are so rampant in Guzamala, Abadam, Marte, Kukawa, Mobbar, Monguno and Gwoza Local Government Areas of Borno State.

According to him, the terrorists have also established hideouts in Geidam, Tarmuwa and Yunusari local governments in Yobe State.

‘Mubi, Madagali and Gombi Local Government in Adamawa State also harbour active sympathisers of Boko Haram terrorists,” he said.
