Men of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) have brutalized a middle-aged man, Muyiwa Akinbola, for allegedly using a phone while driving, in Oyo State.

In a two-minute video clip obtained by PRNigeria, the FRSC personnel deployed at patrol team in Lekki, while brutalizing the man, inflicted injuries on two fingers in his left hand.

The angry driver, who was ‘ranting’ in the clip, accused one Adekola, leader of the FRSC patrol team of collecting his phone, which he was using on hands-free.

“They have seized my car, even after I paid the N4,000 and other little levies, they asked me to pay at WEMA Bank, for using my phone, but on hands-free, while driving. They falsely accused me of not using my seat belt.

“Look, they injured me while dragging the phone with me. They have deformed my fingers. The officer-in-charge has threatened to withhold my car for one week. This is abuse of power,” he poured out.

Responding to the incident, the FRSC spokesperson, Mr Bisi Kazeem said the attention of the corps was drawn to the trending video showing one Muyiwa Akinbola, air traffic offender, who claimed his finger was damaged by FRSC patrol team in Lekki, Lagos State during the course of his arrest for violating established road traffic regulations.

The statement said Mr Muyiwa Akinbola was apprehended on Wednesday 3/02/2021 for Use of Phone While Driving (UPD). Upon other checks carried out on the vehicle, it was discovered by the patrol team that the vehicle had no number plates visibly displaced at the appropriate spot on the vehicle.

Mr Kazeem added that “To ensure effective display of justice, the Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi has directed the Lagos State Sector Commander to carry out thorough investigation, with a view to reveal the crux of the matter and forward the outcome of such investigation to the National Headquarters for necessary actions.

“In the same vein, as an organisation that does not harbour any form of indiscipline, and unprofessional conducts in its operations, the entire team involved in the case have since been recalled to the Lagos State Sector Command for interrogation.

“Members of the public are therefore advised to stay calm as the outcome of the investigation and actions taken will be communicated as usual to the public through available platforms,” he concluded.
