Sasha Attack: Amnesty International Condemns Violence, Calls for Investigation

Amnesty International has condemned the recent attacks on northerners residing and doing business at the Sasha Area of Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State by youths allegedly led by Sunday Igboho.

In a statement via its official Twitter @Amnesty International, the global human rights organization called for an investigation into the violence in order to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.

“We call on the Nigerian authorities to protect the lives and properties of every person in Nigeria wherever they reside. The government must take urgent steps to stop the escalation of violence. #ProtectAllLives #HumanRight”

“The violent incidents in #Oyo and other places must be investigated promptly, independently and fairly. #ProtectAllLives,” it Tweeted.

Tension brewed in Ogun State, yesterday, where hoodlums suspected to be herdsmen allegedly launched an attack on Orile-Igbooro in Yewa North local government area, killing no fewer than four persons.

Houses were set ablaze while several people sustained varying degrees of injury in the said attack.

Several other communities in the area were also allegedly attacked.

The situation prompted the Olu of Ilaro and the paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, to appeal to government to protect lives and property in his domain.

Youths in the area under the auspices of Yewa North Patriotic Forum issued a seven-day ultimatum to killer herdsmen to vacate the area.
