Katsina Traders Urged to Settle Customs Duties
The Kanwan Katsina District Head of Ketare has called on Katsina state traders to always pay their customs duties on imported goods and ensure due process in importation.
Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara made the call in an address he delivered during the inauguration of the thirty four local government newly elected officials of the Katsina state traders association held at the conference hall of the Katsina state local government service commission.
The elected officials were inaugurated by the Katsina state governor who was presented by the commissioner for commerce, industry and tourism Alhaji Mukhtar Abdulkadir.
The Kanwan Katsina who served in the Nigeria Customs Service as controller in Kano-Jigawa and other states of the federation stressed that the importance of paying customs duties on their goods is to save the goods from seizure or arrested by the customs officials.
He noted that the money paid as duties serve as revenue to the federal government of Nigeria which is shared among the three tiers of government.
He explained that the revenues generated are used in executing various developmental projects including ensuring security to provide conducive atmosphere for business and construction of markets.
The Monarch also advises traders to liaise with customs office in Katsina in other to avail themselves with the knowledge of goods that are prohibited and those that are allowed.
The district head also use the occasion to congratulate all the newly elected executives of the thirty four local government branch of the traders association and urged them to carry their members along for the development of the association.
