When a Legislator Prioritize Sports above Education in Madobi
By Ya’u Mukhtar

In light of the ongoing development, it is obvious that when matters regarding youth engagement and participation are tabled for discussion, the current efforts of member representing Madobi Constituency at the Kano State Legislative Chamber, Kabiru Yusuf Chinkoso should be acknowledged with gratitude.

However, to that effect, I hold a different view regarding the recent mega football competition organized and sponsored by the state legislator in the constituency.

I recently came across a video clip on social media, posted by one of his aides, in which the legislator delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of a Mega Football Competition for various youth clubs across Madobi LGA of Kano State.

This development came at a time and critical moment where myself and other concerned citizens of Madobi LGA are in dire need of more deserving projects that could have directly bearing and positive impacts more than a sports tournament.

For instance, when the Qualifying Examination Result for the final year of secondary school students in the state was released, the massive failure was one of the worst recorded in that constituency and the state. The implication here is that the affected students are now compelled to suddenly provide the fee for registration of National Examination Council (NECO) Examination in which a short timeframe was issued for the said exercise.

Despites the State Government’s intervention that pledged to settle the fee for a fraction of students across the LGAs, I believed that, up to now, most of parents in Madobi are still struggling to source the money which they can use to register their wards so as not to miss out in the exam.

Moreover, it can be recalled that recently, an investigative report was published and circulated regarding the pitiful condition of a Government Senior Islamic Secondary School Madobi (https://arewaagenda.com/gsiss-madobi-inside-school/) in which up to now, no promising response was registered from any stakeholder on the possibility of availing the school out of its predicaments.

It is undoubtedly that the legislator’s effort to bring happiness, unity, harmony and peaceful coexistence among youths of Madobi LGA in the sponsorship football competition is remarkable. Nevertheless, our educational sector is presently in a desperate need of reformation regarding human resources, good infrastructure and teaching materials among others.

While commending the legislator for some of his community development efforts, I enjoin him to channel his energy toward revamping education as it stands to be a better investment which pays the best dividend.
