What Buratai, late Attahiru Achieved in 1 Year-COAS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Maj. Gen. Faruq Yahaya, has lauded the ‘sterling accomplishments’ of Late Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru and Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd), his immediate two predecessors in office.

Yahaya, who assumed command barely one month ago in an unexpected circumstance, maintained that the Nigerian Army under Attahiru and Buratai made tremendous achievements, within the last one year.

The achievements, according to the COAS, are in the area of defeating adversaries, infrastructure and manpower development, professionalism and civil military cooperation.

He made this known in Abuja at a press briefing on the occasion of the ‘2021 Nigerian Army Day Celebration’ (NADCEL).

Gen. Yahaya, said he succinctly crafted “To Have a Professional Nigerian Army Ready to Accomplish Assigned Mission within a Joint Environment in Defence of Nigeria,” to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessors.

He disclosed that this year’s NADCEL will be celebrated in low key given the circumstances which preceded his coming on board as the twenty second COAS.

“The weeklong annual event lined up to commemorate NADCEL 2021 will be used to reflect on the performance of the NA and celebrate our achievements as well as project the Nigerian Army as an important symbol of national power, unity, integration and development.

“The NADCEL 2021 will also enable the Nigerian Army reach out to the public through its Medical Outreach Programme on Monday 5 July 2021, during which inhabitants of some selected communities around the country will benefit from a free medical services.

“Equally there will be Humanitarian Outreach programme to be conducted by members of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) in selected areas of FCT and environs on 5 July 2021,” he said.

CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF SUES FOR PEACE AND HARMONY AMONG NIGERIANS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Major General Faruk Yahaya has called for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians. The COAS made the call today Friday 2 July 2021 during Jumma’at Prayers observed to mark the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2021 held at Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja.

General Yahaya commended the effort of troops of the Nigerian Army towards restoring peace and keeping the country united. He averred that the Almighty God created all humans to live together in peace.

Earlier in his sermon, the Director Islamic Affairs, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Shehu Mustapha prayed for peace in the country. He described the military service as a noble profession to serve mankind through selfless service to the nation. He also prayed for the protection of troops engaged in various operations across the country and for the repose of the souls of late Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru and other fallen heroes.

The cleric also prayed for divine guidance and protection for President Mohammadu Buhari and others in the position of leadership. The cleric called on citizens to always support the course of peaceful coexistence in the country.

Dignitaries that graced the occasion were senior military officers, members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association, soldiers, families and civilian staff of the Nigerian Army among others.
