Igbos Hold Prayer For Peace In Borno, Donates To IDPs, Widows
Igbo Welfare Association ( IWA ) Maiduguri under the auspices of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has organised a- one – day prayer session for the return of peace in Borno state and Nigeria at large.
The Association after the prayer session also donated relief items to internally displaced persons ( IDPs ) and Widows in the state.
Speaking after the prayer session which was held on Friday at ST John Anglican Church Maiduguri, Chief Sunday Okonkwo, the President General Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Borno, said it has become necessary for the Igbos to hold the peace prayers as one of the major process for peace and tranquility in the state.
Okonkwo said the lingering Boko Haram insurgency in the state has been a source of worry to them bearing in mind fortunes lost by all who are resident in the state due to the prolonged crisis.
He added that as stakeholders and beneficiaries of economic boom in Borno during its glorious days of peace, the Igbos will continue to pray for quick end to the Boko Haram insurgency and revival of the economy of the state.

On the items donated to the IDPs and Widows through the Special Adviser to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, Chief Kester Ogualili, Okonkwo said the gesture is way of touching the lives of citizens displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency.
” All Igbo sons and daughters including men of God were involved in the prayers. We prayed for the absolute return of peace to the state and the country at large. We as well prayed for Governor Babagana Umara Zulum who has been steering the affairs of the state to the administration of both indigenes and non indigenes.
“We pray to God to grant him more wisdom and courage in the administration of the state. We will keep praying without rest until the required peace is restored back among the Igbos, the state and Nigeria in general “, Okonkwo said.
Also speaking, one of the organisers of the prayer session, Chief Ignatius Chukwu, said the state has been a blessing to many Igbo sons and daughters who are among prominent citizens of the country.
He commended the large turn out Igbos in the state state during the prayer session and prayed that God will continue to grant Igbo community in Borno peaceful coexistence with their host communities.
