…Halt BHTs attempt to abduct commuters

The troops of Sector 1 Operation HADIN KAI deployed at the Forward Operational Base (FOB) along Maiduguri – Damaturu road have rescued 17 civilians from a kidnap attempt by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno state. The terrorists who came in a drove on Wednesday, 7 July, 2021 had attempted an infiltration into Auno village through the Rail Line adjacent to the community, but were quickly intercepted by the vigilant troops in a fierce gun duel.

Further exploitation conducted by troops of 7 Division Garrison and 212 battalion, immediately after quelling the infiltration attempt by the terrorists, resulted in the successful rescue of the commuting civilians, who were abducted during the attack at Kontori along Maiduguri – Damaturu road.

The rescued civilians have been adequately documented and handed over to officials of Rapid Response Squad for further action.

Recall that It was during the said attack that own troops were involved in a road traffic accident, while responding to a distress call from the area.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has commended the troops’ commitment and decisive operations against the terrorists. He also expressed his readiness and resolve to support the troops with requisite logistics and welfare to enhance their operational efficiency.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has charged Nigerian Army (NA) Chief Clerks to be responsive and professional in discharging their duties as custodians of army documents and records. The COAS gave this charge today 13 July 2021 at NA Chief Clerks’ Convention 2021 which held in Headquarters 81 Division, Lagos. He said responsive and professional discharge of duties will greatly enhance optimal performance of the clerks.

While presenting the COAS’ Keynote address at the opening ceremony, the Commandant Nigerian Army College of Logistics, Major General Martins Enendu reiterated the importance of the Convention to the NA. The COAS said “if Chief Clerks carry out their duties effectively, there is no doubt, they will contribute immensely towards the actualization of his vision for the NA, which is to have “A Professional Nigerian Army Ready to Accomplish Assigned Missions in a Joint Environment in the Defence of Nigeria”. He further stated that as trained Clerks they must uphold the tenets of security of documents, which provides the guidelines for professional conduct.

The first Lecture titled “Capacity Development of Clerical Staff: Challenges and ways forward” was succinctly delivered by Colonel Onyekachi Eneowo who enlightened the participants on the roles of NA Clerical Staff. He pointed out the challenges to capacity development, especially in the face of current security challenges confronting the nation. In the same vein, Brigadier General Chijioke Onwule in a lecture titled, “Exploring Information Communication Technology for Optimal performance of the NA Chief Clerks drew the attention of the participants to global best practices that are in tune with military conventions.

Speaking at the event, General Officer Commanding 81 Division NA, Major General Lawrence Fejokwu urged the participants to make optimal use of the opportunity by learning the rudiments of contemporary clerical work.
