Insecurity: Army begins evaluating Commanders’ performances

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Faruq Yahaya, has called on Army Commanders to ensure troops maintain a state of constant alertness, and vigilance to avoid any surprise attack by the adversary.

Yahaya, made the call in Abuja at the closing ceremony of the ‘Combined 2nd and 3rd COAS Conference’, on Wednesday.

He warned that Laissez faire attitudes on the part of the commanders would no longer be tolerated.

The Army Chief, disclosed that he has directed appropriate departments to come up with modalities for the evaluation of the performance of commanders in the course of their command.

He said: “Commanders must be proactive in the conduct of their operations. You must take the fight into the identified and known enclaves of terrorists and criminals to neutralize them.”

The COAS, emphasized the need for men and officers of the Nigerian army to return to the tenets of basic soldering, adhere strictly to the customs, traditions and ethics of the NA and uphold regimentation, as well as emplace transparent sanctions and rewards system.

He tasked formation and unit commanders on the need to ensure adequate security of their bases, barracks and cantonment.

“Commanders would be held responsible for any security breach,” said Lt. Gen. Yahaya.
