MDAs Reforms: BPSR, IMPR Partner on Public Communication

The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), Dasuki Ibrahim Arabi, has solicited the collaboration of Image Merchants Promotions (IMPR) Limited, to sensitize the public on the reforms initiated by the Bureau.

IMPR is the publisher of PRNigeria, Economic Confidential and other media platforms in various sectors.

Arabi, made the appeal when he led other top management staff of the Bureau to PRNigeria Centre, Abuja on a courtesy call.

The DG, during the visit, lamented how citizens constantly flay the public service of not actualizing its mandates.

“One of the mandates of the BPSR is to provide information to citizens on the work we do and the work other ministries, departments and other agencies of governments do, so we are like the megaphone of government,” he said.

Arabi, continued: “And in every ministry, there are information departments, with officers, deputy directors and directors, yet information is not adequately provided or not appreciated by the public.”

He further explained that BPSR’s goal was that by 2012 public service should be paperless, but unfortunately, the objective was not met.

“However, with the advent of COVID-19 came a rude awakening to upscale officer’s performance in agency digitalization.”

Arabi stressed the need for capacity building of agencies’ information officers.

The DG also said BPSR has the approval of the federal government to work with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to generate FoI portals to improve communication between government and citizens and to enable the people to go online and ask questions on the various government organization’s activities.

On his part, Mallam Yushau Shuaib, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IMPR underscored the need for government agencies’ officials to be transparent, and accountable to the public through adequate information dissemination.

“The issues you have raised are very important sir. Transparency and accountability in public service can be enhanced through accurate, responsible and timely information management,” he said.

While commending BPSR’s effort in training information managers, he noted that having requisite skills, and exhibiting professionalism, are among the integral parts of appropriate information dissemination for public communication.
