Oba Shiru: Ilorin Emirate Loses Renowned Palace Technocrat
The National President of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU),Alhaji Aliyu Otta Uthman,fsi,has expressed profound sadness with the demise of a former Secretary to the Ilorin Emirate Council, Alhaji Abdulkadir Oba Shiru. Alhaji Shiru died yesterday in Ilorin after an old age-related sickness.
Alhaji Uthman, in a statement signed by the Union’s National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Imam, said that the Union received the news of the death of the retired palace technocrat with rude shock.
The retired senior security operative described the late elder statesman as a father figure from whom he and other contemporaries of his enjoyed tremendous support and counselling while growing up.
The IEDPU President explained that the death of Alhaji Shiru marked the end of an era in the annals of the community considering several roles he played in the course of his services to the Emirate Council, particularly during the reign of the 9th Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji(Dr) Sulu Gambari,CFR.

Alhaji Uthman recalled the wonderful contributions of Alhaji Shiru as the Secretary to the Ilorin Central Jumaat Mosque Committee under the chairmanship of the pioneer Grand Mufti of Ilorin and founder of the Ansarul Islam Society of Nigeria, Shaykh Muhammad Kamaldeen Al-Adaby, saying that it was his efforts along with those of other patriots that led to the building, completion and colourful commissioning of the original edifice over forty(40) years ago.
The IEDPU President also described Alhaji Shiru, who was the Baba Adinni Quadiriyah Group, as a religious person who served Allah and humanity to the best of his ability. adding that history would not forget him for serving as the Chief Scribe to the Ilorin Emirate Council in the course of the reigns of three succeeding Emirs,Alhaji(Dr) Sulu-Gambari, CFR; Mallam Aliyu Babaagba Abdulkadir; and briefly under the current Emir,Alhaji (Dr)Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR.
Alhaji Uthman commiserated with the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, and the people of Ode Alfa Nda community,Ilorin; especially members of the Shiru family on the death of the renowned palace technocrat as he prayed Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant his gentle soul Al-Janah fridaouz.
