Yahaya Bello: A Governor’s Strides In Tackling Insecurity
By Nafisat Bello

The Kogi State under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello was adjudged as one of the most peace-enjoying State presently in Nigeria.

To that effect, the coalition of Ilorin emirate indigenes has recently during an organized prayer session commended the governor for his strategic security approaches in his State. The coalition therefore advised Nigerian governors to adopt Bello’s security template in their respective States in order to curb criminalities currently bedeviling the country.

Recall that, Yahaya Bello has recently commended some vigilante groups and security agents for rescuing kidnapped victims and subsequent arrest of their abductors in Kogi State. He also urges the public to help with providing useful information about the criminals to the security agencies towards ensuring a crime-free society.

Many Nigerians are not aware about Governor Yahaya Bello’s giant strides in Kogi State which has resorted into several completed projects while others are currently ongoing across several parts of the State.

Before Governor Yahaya Bello assume office, there were a lot of insecurities including kidnappings, banditry, terrorism and robbery bedeviling Kogi State. But he came along way in changing these narratives as of today.

Upon assumption to Office, Bello met daunting statistics of an average of 25 kidnap cases per month.

As of today, it has dropped to an average of 2 due to the provision of over 200 utility vehicles for patrol. Additionally, he procured sophisticated gadgets for the Operation Total Freedom established by the present administration to stamp out criminality in the State.
The result yielded greatly as Kidnapping and armed robbery has dropped by over 92 per cent!

Sequel to that, Yahaya was honorably awarded by the Inspector General of Police for his bravity as kidnappings and robberies have dropped drastically due to the determination and commitment of the Governor in ensuring the safety of Kogi State.

In order to achieve his plan, Bello declared full-fledged war on armed robbers and criminals operating in the State by using security apparatus to pursue kidnap kingpins in the State who were earlier seen as untouchable.

Eventually, their residential buildings and hideouts where the nefarious activities are schemed and executed were equally demolished.

He also constructed the Army Forward Operation bases at different places across the State to enhance the security of lives and properties of the people.

However, it is pertinent to note that, the aforementioned are just little of his achievements in the aspect of Security, as they say, security is key to development.

Thus, the Governor has delivered on that. In terms of infrastructure, Yahaya Bello did not leave any stone unturned as he went ahead to construct roads across the State and equally restored electrical power supply in the State.

No doubt, Bello has made a lot of impact on the lives of the youths and Kogi State as whole.

Having briefly looked at Yahaya’s security intervention in Kogi State, the anticipating question now is, who is Governor Yahaya Bello?

Prior to becoming Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello is a Nigerian Politician and a Businessman. Bello is the Founder of Fair Plus International Limited, a leading transport company across Nigeria that provides road transport services of the highest quality.

Moreso, He became the 4th democratically elected Governor of Kogi State who assumed his first office at the age of 40 in 2015 and was also the Director of Kogi Youth Arise Forum, a group that motivated the campaign of President Muhammadu Buhari in Kogi State.

Yahaya Bello, popularly known as Fair Plus by his admirers owing to the success of his powerful business brand, was born on the 18th of June, 1975 in Agassa, Okene local government in Kogi State to the family of Alhaji Bello Ipemida Ochi and Hajia Hawa Bello Oziohu.

The greatness in him started manifesting at the early stage of his life when he was made the class prefect in primary two at LGEA Primary School, Agassa in Okene LGA in the year 1984.

He held such position until his grade six where he was made the Head boy due to the leadership qualities identified in him. In 1989, his quest for qualitative education saw him into a Government Secondary School, Suleja-Niger State where he finished in 1994.

After his Secondary school education, Bello proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, studied Accounting (B.Sc.) and Masters in Business Administration(MBA).

In 2001, Bello started as a Revenue Officer II at the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), began as a Youth Corp member and got retained due to his diligence.

He later became a Senior Accountant and got transferred to Makurdi Zonal Office to head the Department and later ventured into private business.

In 2004, He became a chartered Fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN).

Yahaya was sworn in as the Governor of Kogi State in January 2016. He became the governor after the first elected candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu died. He succeeded Idris Wada.

Also, on 16 Nov, 2019, Bello was re-elected as Governor under the All Progressive Congress (APC) against Musa Wada of the Peoples’ Democratic Party and continued till date.
Bello is married and blessed with children. He loves reading, driving, traveling, playing soccer, boxing etc.
Thanks to a dynamic Governor who is silently turning Kogi to the epicenter of development.
