Ikoyi Building Collapse: Lagos NIPR Calls for Crisis Communications Response Manual
Lagos NIPR, the foremost chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), has expressed sadness over the loss of precious lives at the scene of the Ikoyi building collapse.
In a statement released to newsmen, the chairman of the flagship chapter, Mrs. Comfort Nwankwo, expressed the Chapter’s condolence to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in the building.
In order to halt the reoccurrence of this kind of tragedy in the future, the Chapter called for tighter building controls that will ensure that construction projects in the state meet required standards at every stage of development.

While commending the quick response of the Lagos State Government in the area of information dissemination and recovery efforts, Lagos NIPR called for the bridging of the trust deficit between the government and the people of the state.
“As the centre of excellence and a dynamic state that is ahead of the curve, the Lagos State Government must do more in the area of bridging the trust gap between the government and the citizens, which will ensure that more people come forward to report infractions of the building codes in the state,” the statement read.
The statement also called on the state government to come up with a crisis communication response manual that would be helpful in responding to crises in the state.
