The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Pauline Talen has said that adequate protection and security for women is vital to ensuring national prosperity.
She disclosed this in Abuja at a workshop organized for journalists, towards ending Gender Based Violence and Harmful Practices in Nigeria.
The workshop themed; “National Communication Strategy on Ending Gender Based Violence and Harmful Practices Against Women and Girls in Nigeria”, was organized by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative/UNFPA.
Talen, who was represented by a Senior official of the ministry, emphasized that when women are free from violence and fear, they will eventually succeed, thus contributing immensely to national development and making Nigeria a safe, secured and more prosperous nation.
The Minister, also noted that, women and girls are equally instrumental in the crusade for protection and sustenance of fundamental human rights.
“Over the years, we have witnessed women and girls inspiring communities and the entire country to stand up for freedom and justice,” she said.
