NITDA, Refugees Commission Train IDPs on ICT Skills

The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internal Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) and National Information Technology Agency (NITDA) have concluded plan to train 10,000 persons of concern on ICT to enhance their livelihood.

The Federal Commissioner, NCFRMI, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim made the disclosure in a meeting with the Forum of Humanitarian Journalists (FHJ), led by their Team Lead, Rahila Lassa of Voice of Nigeria in Abuja.

She said” “We are collaborating with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and the ‘Project Skill Up’ will take up shortly to train 10,000 persons of concern in Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills.

“We are going to begin the pilot phase in the next one week. We are just finalising the list of beneficiaries for the project.

“They are going to be trained around content creation, rebranding and many others ICT components so that they can be able to earn from their computers.

“This is one of the Project Skill Up that the commission is going to give birth to in the next few weeks. The aim is to focus on core skill, not just training but mentoring and coaching in that regard.

“We are doing this so that we can be able to trigger the process of prosperity for them and get them excited; and they can begin to proffer solutions for themselves without waiting for anybody,” she said.

According to her, with the trainings and coaching, they could start seeing opportunities for themselves and also contribute to the economic development of the society.

Speaking earlier, Ms Lassa said the Forum of Humanitarian Journalists pledged its support and seek for collaboration in fair and objective coverage of the commission.

She also hailed the charismatic energy that Ms Sulaiman-Ibrahim came into the commission with, adding that such energy needs publicity to boost the moral of the staff to deliver on the Commission’s mandates.

“Our priority is to ensure you succeed in carrying out your mandate and to give you publicity so that the world will know that it was no mistake that President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq appointed you to lead the Commission.

“As you know, the role of the Media cannot be overemphasized in all spheres of contacts.

“With its traditional role of educating, informing and entertaining the masses, agenda setting, forming and changing of attitudes towards nation building, there’s need for a serious collaboration to carry out these responsibilities effective,” Ms Lassa said.

Ms Lassa noted that there was need to also boost the morale of the journalist via trainings and the opportunity to report from an informed perspective.
