Female Inmates Celebrate, Win Prizes in Kirikiri on International Women’s Day

Inmates of the Female Custodial Facility kirikiri jointed other womenfolk around the world to celebrate the international women’s day .

The Officer-in charge, Female Custodial Facility, Kirikiri, Deputy Controller of Corrections Elizebath Ekpendu and the inmates organized an events tagged the “wonders of a woman” as part of series of programs to commemorate the international women’s day 2022.

The event features several programs like quiz, traditional dance, comedy, drama,fashion pageant amongst others.

The Inmates represented their respective cell blocks in these competitions, where emphasis was placed on gender unity, solidarity and strength of a women irrespective of the status of such person, whether incarcerated/detained or at liberty.

Several winners emerged in the various categories with prizes ranging from payment for examination fees(west african examinations council, national examination council & joint admission and matriculation board), donation of books, vocational equipment, training and other welfare items.

Noticeably the various costumes used for the events where made by the inmates in the facility, this give credence to the various reformative and rehabilitative opportunities avail to these inmates at the facility.

Female Correctional Officers were not left out of the celebration as they also took part in the various events.

The Controller of Corrections Adewale Adebisi, Lagos state Command admonish the female inmates to be of good behaviour and was elated with the creativity and dexterity on display during the event.

International Women’s day is a United Nation holiday celebrated annually on 8th March to celebrate cultural,political and socio economic achievement of women.
