Nigeria’s Unspoken Heroes, By Amadin Uyi

Is Nigeria’s Military as incompetent as Nigerian social media portrays them to be?

This question has been asked time and time again especially on social media platforms but the truth must be told, fair and squarely that this is one of the biggest lies of the 21st century

I have covered the insurgency for almost ten years, visiting locations like Gwoza, Chibok, Biu, Mubi, Maiduguri, Damaturu, Damboa and a host of others places between 2012 till date (2022) on my own, as a Journalist covering the insurgency

I stand to be challenged and corrected anytime, anyday… *our military is one of the most competent in the world*

Despite the fact that I have always had a personal issue with how Nigerian military handlers manage information, truth be told, we sleep with our two eyes closed because our military time and time again has risen to the challenge of being there for us when we needed them most

For every successful operation you hear of, the military has thwarted over 50 others

However the style of this proud and noble institution is such that they do not bask in their own glory, for them whatever success and victory they achieve on the field is an inconsequential sacrifice they are always willing and never tired to pay

So all this talk of terrorists overrunning military formations and trying to take over the FCT and infact Nigeria, is all balderdash

Sometimes I wish we can engage foreign military men who have served with Nigerian soldiers in foreign missions and operations, then we will know how proud it is to be a Nigerian, because our soldiers over time have proved their mettle and are regarded as the real deal

I know this post will not go down well with many especially the doomsday prophets we have in our midst but if you have followed me over the years, you will know that I grand stand for nobody, not for the military or anybody, I speak my mind no matter peoples’ opinion on issues because I personally do not need your affirmation to be me

Our military has paid severe sacrifices time and time again and I think they need to be commended for the efforts they have put in over the years

They are “Nigeria’s unspoken heroes”
