Yemi-Esan Wants IoD Charter Reviewed

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan, has called for a further review of the Institute of Directors’ amended charter, which is with Mr. President for assent, stressing that there is the need to reposition the Institute for greater participation and impact. She stated this during a courtesy visit by members of the Governing Council, Institute of Directors (IoD), Nigeria, in Abuja.

Dr Yemi-Esan, who was recently inducted as a member of the Institute, expressed that it is important that the bill presented for assent to His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, is clear of any ambiguity, stressing that if not properly reviewed, it will create confusion, especially in the public sector and continue to hinder its assent.

The Head of Service stated that the list of functions in the bill is not specific enough in the areas of regulatory powers, training, difference between Directors in the private sector and those in public service, as well as the promotion of integrity in public offices for greater efficiency and productivity.

She said that IoD, Nigeria is a prime leadership Organization that focuses on the professional and developmental needs of Directors, business leaders and policy makers in the country. She added that the Institute is committed to continued professional education and sharpening of skills of Directors, promotion of good corporate governance and best practices in the work place and in the management of resources, in both the public and private sectors.

Dr Jidenma, also opined that the ongoing reforms in the various sectors of the economy, have increased the level of expectations on the performance of the public sector and business leaders, adding that Institute remains committed to playing and sustaining its leadership role in the provision of needed direction and capacity development of its members.
