Aregbesola Inspects 3,000-Capacity Karshi Custodial Facility Project

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, said the 3,000-capacity ultra-modern Custodial Centre in Karshi will be ready before May 2023.

He gave the assurance when he toured the Centre, on Monday, to ascertain the level of completeness of the project.

Aregbesola, who was accompanied by the Controller-General, Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS, Haliru Nababa, and other top management staff of the Ministry to Karshi, expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of the work currently done.

He said: “I am happy with the progress of the work, generally. I want to assure you that this project will be completed before the end of Mr. President’s administration”.

According to the Minister, aside from the one in Karshi, five other new ultra-modern Custodial Centres will be built across the country.

He noted that by the time the Karshi facility and other similar ones are completed, some inmates at correctional centres battling various infrastructural challenges will be moved to the newly-elected facilities.
