NCoS Hosts Football Tournament in Prison
About 158 inmates participated in the just concluded maiden edition of the football tournament which was organised by the Rivers State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) for inmates.
The tournament which started on Tuesday 23rd August, ended on Friday 23rd September 2022, with Shinning star Team clinging the cup as the winners.
The Controller of Corrections Rivers State Command, Felix Lawrence presented the “Controller’s cup” to the winners amidst celebrations.

Dignitaries that graced the event were the Special Advicer to the Executive Governor on School Sports, Barr. Aribitonte Okirie, the Permanent Secretary, ministry of Youths Development and Empowerment, was represented by the Director Education and sports, Mr Samuel Miebaka.
Others are the Director, National Open University of Nigeria, Dr Chukwuka Nancy, and the Commissioner of Sports, Hon Chris Green, who was ably represented by his Special Assistant, Mr Sammy Iwejia, who also took the liberty of running the commentary during the match.
The tournament was organised in accordance with the provisions of Section 14, subsections 1 to 6 of the Nigerian Correctional Service Act 2019.
“This section of the Act focused on reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates back to the society, as participating players were drawn from different hostels and blocks of the custodial centre, who are happy to be part of the reformation process.
Highlights of the event was presentation of Awards to the best player, best behaved team and handling over of the trophy to the winners.
The Female edition of the tournament is also on the cards.
