NEMA Distributes Relief Materials to Flood Victims in Taraba
The Federal government on Friday presented a donation of assorted foods and Non food items to Taraba government for onward distribution to victims of 2022 flood disaster in the state.
Alhaji Mustapha Habib Ahmed, Director General, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) while making the presentation in Jalingo said that the gesture was a demonstration of concern by Federal government to the victims of the flood.
Habib, who was represented by Alhaji Mohammed Kanar, Deputy Director, Human Resources Management said that about 433 local government areas in 35 states of Nigeria were affected by the 2022 flood disaster.
He advised citizens to adhere to Early Warning Signs (EWS) from NiMET and National Hydrological Agency.

He also expressed the determination of the federal government to strengthen state disaster managements and local government emergency emergency committee (LGEMC) on the mitigation of risk and disaster managements within their domain.
He thanked the Taraba government for rapid response to the flood incidence by providing immediate succur to the affected persons in terms of food and non food items.
In his remark, Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba said that Taraba was one of the states that was worst hit by the flood.
The Governor who was ably represented by the SSG, Hon. Anthony Jalson said Taraba state has the longest stretch of the river Benue beginning from Ibi LGA through Lau, Ardo Kola down to Cameroon as far as his knowledge can carry.
He thanked the Federal Government through the office of the Ministry of Humanitarian affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouk and NEMA Director-General, Alhaji Mustapha Habib Ahmed for the kind gesture and pleaded that Federal Government should always put into consideration anytime Government is to give support to affected populations in the affected States of the Federation.
